Francophone Activities Center November 2015 Events

As part of its focus on the dissemination of the French language and culture, the BA Francophone Activities Center is organizing several events throughout November 2015.
Within the framework of the 1001 Inventions Exhibitions—which is currently being held at the BA to shed light on the high value of science and the importance of Ibn al-Haytham’s discoveries and scientific applications that were inspired by light and shadow—the BA Francophone Activities Center, in collaboration with the Faculty of Applied Languages at the French University in Egypt, is organizing two seminars to be led by Dr. Faouzia Charfi, Professor of Physical Science at the Faculty of Science, University of Tunisia. The first seminar, “Science and Religion: Rejecting the Confusion”, will be held at the French University on 9 November 2015.
The second seminar, “Veiled Science”, which shares its name with the title of Dr. Faouzia's book, will be held at the BACC on 10 November 2015. The book was published in 2013 to discuss the controversial relationship between science and religion. The seminar will be accompanied by simultaneous translation from French to Arabic.
The Center is also organizing a seminar for Dr. Randa Sabry titled “Life in Paris by Ahmed Zaki: An Intellectual Work by a Humanitarian Renaissance Pioneer”, where the work of the great Egyptian intellectual and one of the pioneers of reviving Arab intellectual heritage, Ahmed Zaki Pasha, will be discussed. Dr. Randa Sabry, Professor of Literary Criticism at the French Department, Cairo University, had previously translated the book into French, and the translated work was published in Paris in 2015. The seminar will be held on 19 November 2015 at the BA. Dr. Mercedes Volait, Head of Research at the National Center for Scientific Research, will take part in the seminar as she had participated in preparing the previously mentioned translated work for publication.
