Announcement of Abdullatif Al Fozan Award for Mosque Architecture at the “Mosque Architecture in Islamic Civilization” Seminar at the BA

On Wednesday, 25 July 2018, the BA witnessed the opening of a seminar on "Architecture of Mosques in Islamic Civilization: A Future Vision" organized by the Islamic Civilization Studies Program, in cooperation with the General Secretariat of the Abdullatif Al Fozan Award for Mosque Architecture.

The seminar was inaugurated by Dr. Khaled Azab, Head of the BA Central Projects and Services Sector, Dr. Mohamed el Gamal, Director of the BA Islamic Civilizations Studies Program, Dr. Mishary Bin Abdullah Al-Naim; Secretary General of the Abdullatif Al Fozan Award for Mosque Architecture; and Engineer Mohamed Islam el Ghoneimy, supervisor of the Award.

Dr. Mohammed el Gamal said that the seminar aims to discuss future visions regarding mosques architectural designs that are outside of the box, combining the originality of the Islamic view of civilization and heritage with imagination and innovative elements of modern architecture.

Dr. Mishary Al-Naim announced the call for participation in the third edition of the Abdullatif Al Fozan Award for Mosque Architecture in Islamic Countries.

He stressed that the Abdullatif Al Fozan Award for Mosque Architecture is a cultural institution that aims to address new ideas for mosque design around the world and encourage the innovations in planning, design and technology that can form the identity of mosque architecture in the twenty first century.

He pointed out that the Award aims to introduce the idea of the Future Mosque and the development of architectural thought through searching for the most important and best practices in the field of architecture, stressing that the mosque is the most important element in the development of architecture, decorations, arts, among others.

He announced that this edition of the award is for Islamic countries only, but will be launched in all countries around the world starting with the upcoming edition. The current session offers prizes worth $1 million. He added that one of the most important awards added to the current edition will go to innovation in the technical elements of mosques, such as accommodating people with disabilities or devising solutions to reduce the cost of electricity.

It is worth mentioning that the seminar will be attended by a group of professors and researchers from the BA and Egyptian universities, along with professors and researchers from the Abdullatif Al Fozan Award for Mosque Architecture in Saudi Arabia.
