The BA Hosts the First MENANEE Conference on Environmental Economics and Sustainable Development

The BA will organize on 25 October 2007, and for one day, the Middle East and North Africa Network for Environmental Economics (MENANEE) First Conference on Environmental Economics and Sustainable Development, as part of the celebration of the BA's 5th anniversary.
Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, Dr. Partha Dasgupta, Professor of Economics at the Faculty of Economics and Politics at the University of Cambridge, and Dr. Karl Maler, Director of the Beijer International Institute of Ecological Economics will speak in the conference's opening session.
The conference will be attended by distinguished scholars in the field of environmental economics including Dr. Hamdallah Zidan, Executive Secretary, Convention on Biological Diversity and Dr. Hussein Abaza, Chief of the Economics and Trade Branch of UNEP's Division of Technology, Industry, and Economics.
The themes of the conference will include economic assessment, natural resources' economics, sustainable development, environmental accountability, ecological systems' services, biological diversity, economic tools, environmental policies, water economics, climate change, trade, and environment.
It is worth mentioning that the Middle East and North Africa Network for Environmental Economics (MENANEE) was established as a joint venture between the Beijer Institute of Resource Economics and the Library of Alexandria, and is now considered as a regional network that strengthens the capacity of individuals and institutions in the region in the field of environmental and resources economics. It also intends to highlight to policy and decisions-makers the linkages between economic development and environmental changes.
