Call for Submission of Research Papers for the Conference "Cairo: The Meeting Point of Cultures and Civilizations from its Establishment to the Ottoman Era"

On the occasion of the selection of Cairo by the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) as the capital of Islamic culture for 2020, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Center for Islamic Civilization Studies organizes the international conference "Cairo: The Meeting Point of Cultures and Civilizations from its Establishment to the Ottoman Era" at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, on 17 and 18 June 2020.   

The Center invites participants to submit a summary of a new research topic that has not been presented or published before, about Cairo since its inception until the end of the Ottoman era, according to the following axes:

 

  • Capitals of Islamic Egypt before the founding of Cairo.

  • The founding of Cairo and its civilizational role in the Fatimid period.

  • Cairo schools as a center for the transmission of science in the Ayyubid and Mamluk eras.

  • New studies in architecture and Islamic arts in Cairo.

  • Economic and social life in Islamic Cairo, and the development of its institutions (agencies - khans - hotels - markets, craft and industry communities - institutions of a social nature - homes - bathrooms - hospitals).

     

Kindly note that the deadline for submitting and responding to abstracts is Sunday, 15 March 2020. Submitted abstracts should not exceed 250 words and can be written in Arabic or English, provided that a CV of no more than 200 words is written in the third person and sent along with the abstract.

The deadline for submitting the full research is Wednesday, 20 May 2020. After the conference, the organizers will publish the participating research papers in a booklet following their scientific arbitration. Applicants shall be responsible for handling the costs of their participation in the conference, and their travel arrangements to Alexandria and accommodation in it.
