The BA Director in a Seminar at the Cairo Book Fair: Human Trafficking Gangs are behind the "Illegal Immigration Syndrome"

Dr. Ahmed Zayed; Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, said that illegal immigration has exacerbated as an international phenomenon in the last ten years due to the high rates of poverty in third world countries, in addition to wars, conflicts, and tensions.

He stated that statistics confirm the high rates of illegal immigration, noting that the figures indicate that 42,000 illegal immigrants have reached the shores of Europe during 2023, an increase of 292% compared to the year 2022, in addition to the number of people who lost their lives on their way to Europe, which statistics estimate at half a million people.

These remarks were part of the seminar "The Efforts of the National Coordinating Committee in Combating Migrant Smuggling and Human Trafficking" at Cairo International Book Fair, which takes place at Egypt International Exhibition Center. The event witnessed the participation of Ambassador Naela Gabr; Dr. Ahmed Saada, Assistant Minister of Solidarity; writer Samah Abu Bakr; and Ms. Basma Fouad Antar, Founder and Executive Director of Independent Organization International (IOI). It was moderated by Dr. Khaled Saada.
