Mr. Alessandro Giuli, the Italian Minister of Culture, and Prof. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, inaugurated “Mostra Italiani D'Egitto” exhibition, which is held as part of a cooperation between the BA and the Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale di Roma. The exhibition features selected items from the archival collections of both institutions that highlight two of the most prominent figures of twentieth century’s Italian literature: Filippo Tommaso Marinetti and Giuseppe Ungaretti.
Mr. Giuli said that this celebration includes the launch of the “Mostra Italiani D'Egitto” exhibition and the donation of a collection of books to the BA as part of the "Biblioteca Italia" project, stressing the depth of the historical friendship that unites Italy and Egypt in their common belonging to the Mediterranean. He mentioned that the past year had witnessed the celebration of the bicentenary of the establishment of the Egyptian Museum in Turin (the Museo Egizio), which is the oldest in the world and the second in terms of size to the Egyptian Museum.
For his part, Dr. Ahmed Zayed stressed that this important event highlights the strong cultural relations between Egypt and Italy on the one hand and the BA and Italian cultural institutions on the other.
In his speech, Mr. Michele Quaroni, the Ambassador of Italy in Cairo, said that the exhibition aims to highlight the depth and impact of the Egyptian experience in enriching and shaping the lives, writings, and literary production of Filippo Tommaso Marinetti and Giuseppe Ungaretti.
