The BA Celebrates International White Cane Day

The BA Taha Hussein Library for the Blind and Visually Impaired, in collaboration with Kon 3ainee foundation, is organizing an International White Cane Day celebration on Thursday, 16 October 2025, at 11:00 am, at the BA Plaza. This year's celebration stresses the fact that the cane is not just a means of assistance, but also a symbol of leadership, independence, and self-confidence.

This year's event aims to introduce sighted people, especially university students, to the daily experience of blind people through a number of interactive activities that allow participants to temporarily experience blindness by wearing blindfolds and using white canes. It also features a workshop entitled “The Four Senses,” which focuses on using the other senses as a substitute for sight, in addition to a chess game between blind and sighted people.

In a unique initiative exclusive to the celebration day, the BA, in collaboration with Kon 3ainee foundation, is offering a free white cane repair and maintenance service for attendees who have any damage to theirs, as well as a training workshop to teach blind people how to personally maintain their own canes.

The BA has been organizing this event annually since 2005 to support the rights of people with visual impairments and raise community awareness of the importance of the white cane and its role in enabling blind people to move safely and participate actively in society.
