The BA Congratulates Salwa Bakr on Winning the BRICS Literary Award

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina congratulates the renowned writer and novelist Salwa Bakr on her well-deserved win of the BRICS Literary Award in its first edition. Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, said that this award confirms the high standing of Egyptian literature on the international scene and is a testament to the creative achievements of the great Egyptian writer Salwa Bakr, who has enriched Arabic literature with dozens of short stories, novels, literary studies, and research papers. Her writings have contributed to enriching Egyptian and Arab cultural life and promoting women's rights in various creative fields. For several years, she has been the editor-in-chief of the series Tourath (Heritage) that is published by the General Egyptian Book Authority.
The great writer Salwa Bakr is one of the most prominent Egyptian narrative voices in the last four decades, and her works are considered a reference in reading the transformations of Egyptian society.
It is worth noting that this is the first edition of the cultural award, which is issued by the BRICS economic organization, whose membership includes ten countries from several continents, including Egypt. The award was announced and launched in Khabarovsk, Russia, and aims to honor works that express the cultural and spiritual values of the peoples of member states. It allows the winning works to be translated into several languages.
