The BA Center for Islamic Civilization Studies is organizing a seminar titled “The Unknown Papers of Imam Muhammad Abduh” on Tuesday, 21 January 2025, from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm, in the BACC Delegates Hall.
The seminar will be delivered by Dr. Emad Abu Ghazi, Professor at the Faculty of Arts, Cairo University, and former Minister of Culture; and Dr. Walid Ghaly, Professor at the Institute of Islamic Civilization Studies at Aga Khan University in the United Kingdom.
The seminar will focus on a collection of manuscript papers, photographs, and documents held at the Aga Khan University in London, including several pieces penned in Imam Muhammad Abduh's handwriting from 1883. These materials cover historical and political developments concerning Egypt's history during that era. Among the documents is an original draft of regulations written by Imam Muhammad Abduh in September 1883 regarding the establishment of a national government in Egypt, which was created a year after the British occupation of the country, illustrating the intellectual evolution of this religious reformer and enlightenment figure who was involved in the Egyptian national movement.
