Objective: The course aims to clarify the role of Alexandria as a center for linguistics and its studies in the Hellenistic world. The Bibliotheca Alexandrina and the Museum were the center of literary and critical studies, as the Library was headed by a number of linguists, such as Eratothenes, Aristophanes (Byzantine), and Aristarchus, who founded the Alexandrian science.
Content: The course focuses on the features of ancient and new literary styles and the blending of classical Greek literature with the oriental background of Hellenistic culture by containing new concepts. The course deals with prose works, Alexandrian poetry in the Hellenistic era, writing and the literary production environment, as well as literary analyses of some texts that will be studied in the ancient Greek language and their translation. The student analyzes the different genres of literature and compares the poets of Alexandria.
