Alexandria — As part of the BA’s interest in different arts and sciences that enrich humanity, and its efforts to enhance the exchange of ideas, the BA is hosting the Natural Resource Policies in the Near East and North Africa: From Management to Governance from 3-4 July 2006. The Conference is organized by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). The Conference discusses the governance of natural and economic resources, which are relatively scarce in a world of increasing demands. The Conference is based on an innovative research program in various countries in the region (Morocco, Tunisia, Sudan, and others), and will be an occasion to present and discuss a synthesis of the studies from other countries. The research includes innovative work on the measurement and determinants of rural community capabilities for natural resource management, and work on natural resource-based conflicts as well as understanding related policy making processes in various institutional settings. A group of academics, economists and specialist in governance of resources will participate in the conference.
