The BA Documents Tombstones from Alexandria

Alexandria— the BA in cooperation with the Supreme Council for Antiquities finished documenting the tombstones of Alexandria. The project is one of the most important fruits of the partnership agreement between Dr. Zahi Hawas, Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Antiquities and Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria.
The Calligraphy Center team headed by Dr. Khaled Azab, Acting Director of the Calligraphy Center, in cooperation with Islamic and Coptic Antiquities Sector at the Supreme Council for Antiquities documented a collection of tombstones at the Fine Arts Museum, Meharam Bek, Alexandria. The collection was transported in 1940 from the ancient cemetery at the Mosques Square, near Abu Al-Abbas El- Morsi Mosque to the Fine Arts Museum to expand and re-plan the Mosque square.
The BA will issue a catalogue containing an analytical study on the collection published for the first time. The tombstones are important documents in studying the culture and history of a certain Arab Islamic society based on the writing, scripts, literary texts, poetic verses, titles and posts on the tombstones.
