Alexandria— The BA Calligraphy Center will organize on Thursday, 31 May 2007, a lecture entitled "Creativity in Arabic Hurūfiyāt". Dr. Ezzat Gamal El-Din, Professor, Faculty of Applied Arts, Cairo University, will speak on his works using Hurūfiyāt, derived from Arabic calligraphy alphabets. He will also discuss the controversies raised on the artistic arena on what is Hurūfiyāt? Whether it is calligraphy or a form of plastic art? Hurūfiyāt is a plastic art applying alphabets. Hurūfiyāt occurred in the sixties as an aesthetic relation between alphabets and colors. The combination of the inscription of an Arabic alphabet and colors reflects the spirit and emotions of an artist. The lecture will start at 12:00 noon at the BA Auditorium.
