Toward Better Arabic Handwriting

Alexandria, 21 June 2005—The Calligraphy Center at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) is holding a round-table discussion, 22 June 2005, on the steps taken in implementing the recommendations of the conference “Toward Better Arabic Handwriting”. The conference, held in July 2004 at the BA, aimed to propose solutions for the problem faced today of poor handwriting of both students and the public at large.

Professor Abdelhalim Nureldin, Director of the Calligraphy Center, will chair the session. Participants in the discussion include Dr. Mohsen Youssef, Senior Advisor for Special Projects at the BA; Mr. Ayman El Amir, Deputy Head of the BA External Relations Sector; and Dr. Khaled Azab, Acting Director of the Media and Communications Department. Also participating are the Deans of the Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Education and Faculty of Fine Arts as well as the representatives of the main Egyptian newspapers.

The discussion begins at 11:00 am in the Calligraphy Center in Shalalat.
