Khaled Azab in a Conference for Dialogue Among Civilizations

Alexandria, 30 January 2006—Dr. Khaled Azab, Head of Media Department and Deputy Director of the BA Calligraphy Center, will participate in an international conference on “Civilizations and Human Cultures: From Dialogue to Coalition”, organized by the Islamic Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) in Tunisia from 30 January 2006 to 1 February 2006.

The conference will discuss several issues including: Dialogue Among Civilizations: Results and Challenges; Towards a Human Interacting Society, Islamic Culture and Human Values; Bases and Mechanisms of Coalition among Civilizations; and the Role of International, Regional, and Non-Governmental Organizations in Promoting Coalition among Civilizations.

Dr. Khaled Azab will give a lecture on the Role of the Library of Alexandria in the Interaction among Civilizations, focusing on the role of the Library as a window for Egypt on the world and a window for the world on Egypt. In his lecture, Dr. Azab will refer to the achievements of the library and the role of the Board of Trustees, 26 members from all over the world: the United States of America, France, Morocco, Palestine, Kuwait, India, and Germany. Dr. Azab will also discuss the role of the BA friends associations meetings, as well as other international conferences and events held at the BA in bringing together different cultures and civilizations.

Anna Lindh Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures based at the BA premises and its role in promoting dialogue between the Mediterranean countries’ and the European Union is one of the main themes discussed in Dr. Azab’s lecture. He will also explain the work of the BA Calligraphy Center in studying ancient and modern scripts from different regions and cultures.

Leaders interested in the dialogue between cultures from all over the world will also participate in the conference, namely, Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, President of Tunisia, Mahatir Mohamad, Malaysian Former Prime Minister, Amr Moussa, Secretary General of the Arab League, Queen Rania of Jordan, HRH Prince Charles, The Prince of Wales, Mohammad Khatami, President of Iran, Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Tweijari, General Director of ISESCO, Kofi Anan, Secretary General of UN, Abdou Diouf, Secretary General of the Organization for Francophone, and Terry Davis, Secretary General of the Council of Europe.
