BA’s message on KEO

Posted on

Alexandria, 1st February 2006—From 5 February 2006 till the end of 2007, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina is organizing an exhibition related to the satellite KEO. The exhibition displays posters that portrays the idea of this project as well as a replica of KEO in its orbit. During the exhibition, a documentary about KEO and its purpose will be screened.

KEO is a project chosen by UNESCO to be the “project of the 21st century”. KEO is a small passive satellite all set to embark on a 50,000 year odyssey from 2007/2008 carrying messages from humanity. As it returns to earth, it will give our great grandchildren an idea of what the world of today is like along with a reflection of our way of life.

Each person on earth today has the right to four uncensored pages: an identical space of equality and freedom of expression where we can all voice our aspirations, dreams and plans for the future, reveal our deepest fears and our strongest beliefs, a chance for any and all to leave a message for our future great grandchildren, so that they may be better able to understand what the world "was" like today, in their future.

Our messages along with an immense amount of knowledge and information, from several sources including a "Contemporary Library of Alexandria" will be carried on board the KEO to be delivered to our successors 50 millennia in the future.

The exhibition at the BA is open for all interested people to leave their messages, ideas, dreams, and hopes.
