Overview
In the world of globalization, more emphasis is being put on enhancing Science and Technology in the developing nations. A goal that could only be achieved through the mobilization of all human resources in these nations; the recognition of the role of women as key players is crucial towards the success of this endeavor.
To highlight the importance of the role of women, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina is organizing the "Women in Science" conference to take place 23-24 October 2007.

Empowerment Of Women
In 1945, the United Nations endorsed a charter that is to be respected and implemented by all member states. In it, was the first international declaration of the equality of men and women; " … to reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person, in the equal rights of men and women and of nations large and small … ".

Started as a political event, the holiday blended in the culture of many countries. In some celebrations, the day lost its political flavor, and became simply an occasion for men to express their sympathy and love to the women around them.

As his torian of science Naomi Oreskes said recently, "The question is not why there haven't been more women in science; the question is rather why we have not heard more about them."
