The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA), through the Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP), affiliated to the Academic Research Sector, and The World Academy of Sciences for the Advancement of Science in Developing Countries’ Arab Regional Partner (TWAS–AREP), organized a free online lecture titled “Doing Better Science: Human Resilience and Vulnerability from Epigenetics Perspective”; presented by Prof. Rana Dajani, Yidan Global Fellow at Harvard Graduate school of Education, and professor of molecular biology at the Hashemite University in Jordan, and moderated by Dr. Alya Arabi, Associate Professor at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, College of Medicine and Health Sciences, UAEU, on Monday, 20 October 2025; at 11:30 am (Cairo Time).

The lecture discussed tackling epigenetics. As humans we have evolved and survived because of our curiosity and critical thinking. How do those traits shape our science, our lives, and our understanding of the world around us? Epigenetics, a new area of science, is the weaving of our genetics and environment in shaping who we are. The lecture explored the impact of trauma and war on our bodies, and what steps we can take to address these effects.

نظمت مكتبة الإسكندرية (BA) من خلال مركز الدراسات والبرامج الخاصة (CSSP(بقطاع البحث الأكاديمي والشريك العربي الإقليمي لأكاديمية العالم للعلوم للدول النامية (TWAS-AREP) محاضرة مجانية عبر الانترنت بعنوان " نحو علم أفضل: المرونة البشرية من منظور جيني"؛ قدمت المحاضرة الأستاذة الدكتورة/ رنا الدجاني، زميلة في زمالة يدان العالمية في كلية الدراسات العليا في جامعة هارفارد، وأستاذة في علم الأحياء الجزيئي في الجامعة الهاشمية في الأردن،وأدارت الجلسة الدكتورة علياء عربي، أستاذة مشاركة في قسم الكيمياء الحيوية وعلم الأحياء الجزيئي، كلية الطب والعلوم الصحية، جامعة الإمارات العربية المتحدة، وذلك يوم الاثنين 20 اكتوبر 2025، الساعة الحادية عشرة ونصف صباحًا (بتوقيت القاهرة).

ناقشت المحاضرة مفهوم علم الوراثة فوق الجينية هو مجال علمي جديد يوضح كيف تتشابك جيناتنا مع بيئتنا لتشكيل هويتنا. لقد تطورنا كبشر وبقينا على قيد الحياة بفضل فضولنا وقدرتنا على التفكير النقدي. استعرضت المحاضرة كيفية تأثير هذه الصفات على العلم وحياتنا، وكيف تساعدنا هذه الصفات على فهم العالم من حولنا، من منظور جيني. سوف تُلقي المحاضرة الضوء ايضًا على تأثير الصدمات والحروب على أجسادنا، وما يمكننا القيام به للتعامل مع هذه التأثيرات.
