Réseau Francophone Numérique (RFN)
Paris 25 March 2010: Under the auspices of the International Organization of the Francophonie, 15 representatives of different cultural institutions (members of the RFBNN “Réseau Francophone des Bibliothèques Nationles Numériques”) have gathered to sign the new charter of the RFBNN, on the occasion of the adoption of its new name, RFN “ Réseau Francophone Numérique”. The parties have recognized the importance of the international collaboration for the preservation and accessibility of digital content for future generations, mainly the French content. Moreover, Dr. Noha Adly, Deputy Head of the ICT Sector, Bibliotheca Alexandrina was nominated and selected during that meeting to become a member of the Steering Committee of the new consortium, representing Bibliotheca Alexandrina.
The goal of the consortium is to reflect the diversity of the Francophone documentary sources of the member countries and to help them preserve and restore their heritage. Moreover, the consortium is mainly working towards the accomplishment of the below objectives:
- Ensuring that all member countries will work collaboratively in order to identify, develop and facilitate implementation of solutions to select, collect, digitize and preserve the French language content and ensure proper accessibility;
- Facilitating coverage of the international collections of French language content in accordance with their national legal frameworks and policies; and
- Promoting wide access to all those collections as well as proper digitization and preservation.
