The Digital Archive of President Mohamed Naguib

As a continuation of its mission to preserve history for future generation in digital form, and to provide free public access to a wealth of historical documents, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina launched the digital archive of President Mohamed Naguib (http://naguib.bibalex.org). The website is one of the digital archives documenting the lives of Egypt’s late presidents, their presidency periods, and how they affected the modern history of Egypt.

President Mohamed Naguib (1901-1984) was an Egyptian Army officer who played a prominent role in July 1952 revolution and became Egypt's first president after the overthrow of king Farouk.

The Archive comprises a unique collection of different materials pertaining to his life, military career, presidency period, resignation and various subsequent events till his death. It includes around 20 documentaries, 16 audio, 899 photos, 20 English and Arabic magazine covers, 675 Arabic and English articles and newspapers, and 97 speeches. In addition, there are more than 220 documents related to the July revolution, the new government, the constitution, and several other political events.

The whole collection was assimilated, digitized, organized and made available in a user friendly interface, where each item has a special viewer and is accompanied with a detailed description. The system supports retrieving the search results from the different categories of the entire collection. This special collection is indeed a helpful resource for researchers and people interested in the modern history of Egypt.
