Alexandria,28 September,2017 – In partnership with VI-SEEM, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) held a one-day national dissemination event on the 28th of September, at the BA’s premises. The event aims to introduce the EU-funded project and raise awareness of the different resources provided by the BA, to members of the different scientific communities in Egypt.
During the event, participants were introduced to the Virtual Museums Framework (VirMuF) application, which is a tool developed by the BA utilizing advanced programming and graphic techniques, within VI-SEEM for constructing virtual museums. Furthermore, the BA’s High Performance Cluster (BA-HPC) infrastructure was presented to the attendees. Finally, the participants joined an hour of hands-on HPC experience,followed by a detailed visit to the BA-HPC facility and a general tour of the BA.
VI-SEEM aims at creating a unique Virtual Research Environment (VRE) in Southeast Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean (SEEM), with special focus on the scientific communities of Life Sciences, Climatology and Digital Cultural Heritage.
The event is held within the framework of the BA’s contribution in VI-SEEM project to support scientific research in Egypt and dissemination of knowledge. In this context, the BA avails its upgraded super-computing facility “BA-HPC C2” to researchers and shares its expertise in the utilization of the advanced techniques in 3D scanning and imaging for digital cultural heritage applications, through organizing several events and workshops to the scientific community.
